Domestic White Rhone Blend - Referring most commonly to Marsanne, Roussanne, Viognier and Grenache Blanc as they are the dominate grapes that have reached their major success for centuries in the vineyards surrounding the Rhone River in France. The California Central Coast has had such a grand success growing these varietals. This success can be attributed to our coast winds and fogs, our long growing seasons and variety of terrains and terroirs. Additionally, Central Coast producers have strived to develop a collaborative relationship with the French rather than a competitive one and this has helped to nurture our local Rhone varietal industry.

Domestic Muscats - This sweet, luscious grape has been grown for table grapes and raisin production however we love it for its fine wine versatility and perhaps best of all for the terrific late harvest dessert wines of local origin. This is one of the oldest grape varietals in the world and therefore numerous countries, including Italy have their own special twist on producing wines from Muscat. Italian imigrants of past generations who migrated to California have contributed greatly to Californias rich, grape growing history. Their love for this varietal stemming from their historical familiarity with it combined with Central California's great growing conditions have lead to great successes and it is their legacy that should be applauded for its affect on our local industry.

Domestic Red Rhone Blends - We are referring most commonly to Syrah, Grenache, Mourvedre, Carignan, and Counoise as they are the dominate grapes that have reached their major success for centuries in the vineyards surrounding the Rhone River in France and perhaps, most famously in the appellation of Chateauneuf du Pape. These grapes have robust characteristics with medium to heavy tannic structure and tremendous agability. The Central California Coast has reached international success for their work with these grapes but the entire Pacific Northwest including Washington, Oregon and most of California should be commended for producing a great variety of Rhone wines at terrific values.

Domestic Reds - Don't be discouraged by this catch all category. Some of the best values in the industry can be found amongst contenders falling into this description. The great hunters of the wine enthusiast world can often be amply rewarded for their efforts in sorting amongst this crowd of less used varieties or uncommon blends.
