Syrah/Petit Sirah - This category overlaps with our Domestic Red Rhone category which is rather appropriate as the origins of Petit Syrah are rather cloudy as to whether their heritage is linked to Syrah and/or other varieties prominent in the Rhone Valley of France. Refer to Domestic Red Rhone for more wines blended with Syrah, Grenache and Mourvedre. Petit Sirah gained mention in the 1880s in California and is still largely planted here more so than elsewhere in the world. It plenty of tannin and deep, dark, black fruit color, often described as Inky. It is full bodied and generally has decent agability and bold fruit composition.
