88-91 from Robert Parker of The Wine Advocate!
The 2007 Pinot Noir Donnelly Creek Vineyard is made primarily from the Pommard Clone. It displays a dark ruby color, a good texture, medium to full body, lovely purity and density, and a closed, moderately tannic framework. It should be outstanding after a year or so in bottle. DEC 2008 ISSUE
This is an impressive, up-and-coming operation in the Anderson Valley, and I canÆt recommend their wines highly enough. Readers may remember my enthusiastic reviews from last year, and itÆs good to see the continued high quality of the 2007s. The three single vineyard Pinot Noirs all enjoy 7-8 cold soaks, aging for 13-14 months in 44%-78% new French oak, and are bottled with neither fining nor filtration. All of them were scheduled to be bottled in early December, 2008
This is a very dense wine, both aromatically and on the palate. Intense aromas of blackberry jam, mission figs, and dates are lifted by hints of cedar, spice box, and tea leaves. The mouth feel is thick and viscous with dense tannins that will give the wine great longevity. Flavors of black cherry and blackberries contrast with notes of smoked meat, toast, and vanilla. A rich wine meant for aging.
Nick's Pick for something special!
If you want to bring a truly special Pinot to a party, consider Breggo. Breggo pays special attention to the trellising of their vines and no expense is spared in maintaining their vineyards. This effort and attention shines thru in all of their wines. We only get a view bottles of each of our Breggo selections, so scoop them up quickly. I would call them a collectible however, I would encourage you to drink them now because Breggo has so much potential it is better to introduce them to yourself now... you will thank me later!
