A well-known wine produced from grapes grown in the exclusive area near the town of Orvieto. With a fresh, delicate bouquet accented with hints of pears, Ruffino Orvieto Classico is delightful with seafood and white meats. - Staff Notes
"The Orvieto Classico wine is named after one of Umbria's most beautiful cities, located on a hilltop between Florence and Rome. This city is known for its magnificent dome.
Wine has been made in Orvieto since the days of the Etruscans. They recognized that the region's characteristic tufa ("chalky limestone soil") was the perfect terrain for planting grapevines. They were also the first to take advantage of the soft rock, by carving out storage cellars beneath the city.
Over the years, winegrowers from the Chianti region have also maintained vineyards in Orvieto. They are driven by the desire to produce a class of white wine as well known and loved as Chianti itself. In fact, there is hardly any other Italian white wine as widely known and loved as the Orvieto Classico with its easy drinking character and distinct Italian style." - Winery Note's
