Vietti Roero Arneis 2015Pale sunshine yellow color with fresh floral, citrus and melon aromas with hints of almond. An unoaked, dry, medium bodied white wine with crisp acidity, the Arneis is well-balanced, elegant wine with good complexity and a lingering finish. Food Pairings: As an aperitif with light hors d'oeuvres, crudités, seafood, salads, light soups, simply prepared veal, pork, chicken and creamy cheeses.
Elouan Reserve Pinot Noir 2015For our very first Elouan Reserve Pinot Noir we relied entirely on fruit sourced from the Rogue Valley AVA of southern Oregon - the warmest and driest of Oregon's viticultural areas. Rogue's Mediterranean climate consistently produces powerhouse pinots with deep plum notes, abundant yet supple tannins, and a sweet red fruit core. That was particularly true in the 2015 vintage, which is why we chose to produce this limited-production offering. The wine has a deep, shimmering ruby red color and aromas of rich, ripe dark plums, red cherries and black currant jam with subtle touches of pepper spice, mushrooms and earthiness. You will taste a sweet, red fruit core, good structure and depth of flavor, with soft tannins balanced by fresh lingering acidity.
Pasqua Amarone della Valpolicella 2012A deep red in colour, it has an expansive bouquet, with fresh, positive scents of fruits such as blackberries and cherries. On the palate it displays spicy tones that remind one of chocolate and freshly-roasted coffee, as well as sweetish vanilla-like notes from its long maturation in wood. It is warm and well-balanced, with gentle tannins and a long finish. Food Pairings: Excellent with grilled red meat, powerful game stews and aged, rich cheeses.
Lail J. Daniel Cuvée 20142014 was another drought year in the Napa Valley, again yielding a crop of small, intensely flavored grapes (especially from our two mountain vineyard sites). As is often the case, this J. Daniel CuvÃ©e is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, showing off the beautiful energy and purity of this vintage. The aromas and flavors tilt toward the black fruits family, including black raspberry, black cherry, boysenberry and blackberry. It has that creamy, regal mid-palate that is a signature of this flagship bottling, and a perfect balance that should allow it to grow and improve for many years to come.
Chateau de Saint Cosme Côtes du Rhône 2016 1.5LAfter the magnificent 2015, here is the superb 2016. In the Côtes du Rhône appellation, I have never seen two vintages of such a high standard in succession. The 2016 may even prove to be better over time because yields were lower than in 2015. I will repeat as many times as it takes that the Côtes du Rhône are an extraordinary winemaking playground for those who like quality. The region combines old vines, magnificent terroirs, fairly low yields and an outstanding climate. Although I am constantly exploring every avenue, I am a huge fan of our two favourite wine areas: Vinsobres and the Villafranchian terraces of the Gard department, both of which are sources for this wine. The Syrah really displayed its exceptional credentials in 2016 with top quality fruit, magnificently intense colour and layered texture. Although this wine is designed for early-drinking, it will be long-lived, which is unusual for the category. This, however, is a consistent feature in the Côtes du Rhône where many terroirs show real pedigree but the collective psyche refuses to grant them the recognition they deserve. It is a huge pleasure for me to allow people, irrespective of how much money they have to spend, to access a wine of this quality because it is essential that you, our clients, continue to enjoy French wine imbued with charm, identity and finesse.
