Shafer Napa Valley Merlot 2013While this wine is officially designated with the Napa Valley appellation, its fruit is sourced from within just a three-mile radius in the Valley's cooler southern end. Half of our fruit for our Merlot comes from a hilly Shafer-owned vineyard we've informally dubbed, "School Bus," located about a quarter mile due south of Stags Leap District. The remainder is cultivated within Stags Leap District by growers we've worked with closely for years. Merlot is a finicky grape - a bit too much rain, a touch of frost early in the season - will easily result in less than ideal fruit. Early on each season our vineyard team culls any weaker fruit leaving only the best-of-the-best on the vine, ensuring that the wine exhibits lush, ripe, mouthfilling flavors that are true to varietal character.

Elouan Reserve Pinot Noir 2015For our very first Elouan Reserve Pinot Noir we relied entirely on fruit sourced from the Rogue Valley AVA of southern Oregon - the warmest and driest of Oregon's viticultural areas. Rogue's Mediterranean climate consistently produces powerhouse pinots with deep plum notes, abundant yet supple tannins, and a sweet red fruit core. That was particularly true in the 2015 vintage, which is why we chose to produce this limited-production offering. The wine has a deep, shimmering ruby red color and aromas of rich, ripe dark plums, red cherries and black currant jam with subtle touches of pepper spice, mushrooms and earthiness. You will taste a sweet, red fruit core, good structure and depth of flavor, with soft tannins balanced by fresh lingering acidity.
Pasqua Amarone della Valpolicella 2012A deep red in colour, it has an expansive bouquet, with fresh, positive scents of fruits such as blackberries and cherries. On the palate it displays spicy tones that remind one of chocolate and freshly-roasted coffee, as well as sweetish vanilla-like notes from its long maturation in wood. It is warm and well-balanced, with gentle tannins and a long finish. Food Pairings: Excellent with grilled red meat, powerful game stews and aged, rich cheeses.
Lail J. Daniel Cuvée 20142014 was another drought year in the Napa Valley, again yielding a crop of small, intensely flavored grapes (especially from our two mountain vineyard sites). As is often the case, this J. Daniel Cuvée is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, showing off the beautiful energy and purity of this vintage. The aromas and flavors tilt toward the black fruits family, including black raspberry, black cherry, boysenberry and blackberry. It has that creamy, regal mid-palate that is a signature of this flagship bottling, and a perfect balance that should allow it to grow and improve for many years to come.
O'Shaughnessy Howell Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon 2014The 2014 Howell Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon is a gorgeous and multilayered wine that showcases the complexity of all seven of the Bordeaux varietals that we farm. The wine is dark ruby red in color with aromas of red raspberries, currant, ripe plum and smoked meats. Focused flavors of wild cherry jam, plum butter, and raspberry cobbler are followed by a long finish with integrated acidity and complex palate filling tannins. Muscular, but with restrained elegance, this wine carries the O'Shaughnessy trademark of balance and power.
Round Pond Rutherford Estate Cabernet Sauvignon 2014Dark fruit intrigues the taster with blackberry, cassis, and hints of lavender and bramble on the nose. On entry the fruit is crisp with lively acidity that brings a beautiful freshness. Loads of black cherry and raspberry come through on the rich, full mid-palate. Bright red berries lead in to a deeply complex and balanced finish with layers of rhubarb, pepper, roasted coffee and dark chocolate. From entry to finish, the wine builds texture and lingers on the palate with a historical nod to Rutherford dust.
Rickshaw Pinot Noir 2015The 2015 Rickshaw Pinot Noir jumps out of the glass with high-toned aromas of red fruit and earthy notes. In the mouth it possesses bright cherry, candied kumquat, and mossy evergreen notes. The color is a healthy, deep purple and the wine full-bodied, rich with mulberry, black cherry, dark chocolate, blackcurrant and blackberry fruit, graphite and spice - insanely approachable now given it's silky personality but capable of evolving for up to 15 - 20 years, if you're patient enough.
Matchbook The Arsonist Chardonnay 2015A luscious wine with seamless integration of oak and fruit, Matchbook's 2015 The Arsonist Chardonnay showcases the quality of the Dunnigan Hills. Obsidian Ridge Half Mile 2015This wine is one of the darkest wines we've ever made from Obsidian Ridge (and that's saying something), with aromas of fresh blackberry juice and black cherries laced with brown sugar. The texture is velvety smooth, and the wine is packed with generous fruit. Flavors of ripe black cherries and blackberries are complemented by intriguing hints of pencil lead shavings, roasted coffee beans and the bark of cedar. This is a massive wine that still holds its balance with graceful acid and tannin through the finish.
