Located in the Chianti Classico commune of Castellina, this Castellare offering is comprised primarily of the local Sangiovese grape, Sangioveto. Research begun in the late 1970s allowed Castellare to isolate this clone and enabled the winery to make this very unique style of a Tuscan classic.

Honoro Vera Garnacha 2016The grapes come from vineyards, 30-40 years old, with yields of 2T/Ha and located high on the hillsides, 700-900 metres above sea level. The vineyards are planted in mainly decomposed slate and gravely clay soils. The fermentation was carried out in small stainless steel tanks for 15 days at temperetures below 27oC, and then spent a short period of two months in French oak barrels. It exhibits greater aromatic complexity, richness with mineral and blueberry notes leading to a savory and spicy wine nicely balanced and very easy to drink. FOOD PAIRINGS Rice, pasta (noodles, spaghetti, macaroni), white and blue fish, goat cheese, cold meat, vegetables, lentil soup, peas, mushroom, beef, chicken, roast meat, red and white grill meat. Jack Creek Estate Pinot Noir 2014Aged for 11 months in French Oak (30% new), the 2014 vintage was quite similar to the 2013, a blessing! This wine was recently bottled and we recommend you hold on to it for 6 months, or decant before drinking. The wine has gorgeous notes of raspberry, cranberry and sage. Drink mid 2016 through 2022.

On the palate, fresh stone fruit and apple flavours are backed by refreshing acidity, minerality and a full-bodied mouthfeel. A versatile food wine that will pair well with poultry, shellfish and vegetable dishes. Also fabulous as an aperitif for a hot summer afternoon. Great to drink now, but ages beautifully over 2-5 years. Serve chilled.
